Day School Programs:
At its best, a Jewish day school experience is a full day of learning in which children are exposed to excellent pedagogy in both the general and Jewish subject domains. While young people are learning math and geography, they are studying the rich sources of Jewish life; classical texts, modern Israel, Hebrew, Jewish values, and history.
Day schools, however, are much more than that. They are not merely houses of instruction, but rather a holistic educational environment in which children live and learn the added value of being a loyal Canadian and a devoted Jew. The daily atmosphere of mixing sports, Torah, music, Hebrew, art, math, and English is, in itself, a lesson in integration. As a child develops autonomy, the very air in a day school has the added value of both civic and Jewish responsibility.
Toronto has one of the most diverse set of day schools in the world, whereby any and every family can find the right fit in terms of both ideology and pedagogic preference.
Supplementary Programs:
The Toronto community is rich in options in Jewish education and supplementary programs are a natural choice for those
who have not as yet secured learning opportunities for their children. There are 40 affiliated programs in the city currently
housing more than 5,500 children.
These programs span all age groups and cross all denominations. They also fit every lifestyle with weekend, weekday
and evening classes.
They offer formal learning opportunities for Hebrew language acquisition, acculturation and community building.
Emphasis for many programs is on mitzvah (good deeds), tzedakah (charity); holiday celebration and bible.
Many programs also offer opportunities for family engagement extending into the life of the school, synagogue and
community. Additional highlights can include retreats for teenagers, credit courses and Israel experiences.
